Kasengejje Resource Centre

A–Z Children’s Charity has a resource center consisting of 7 rooms built on one acre of land in a community called Kasengejje. This is a rural community. This project is involved in empowering local community based organisations (CBOs) to fight HIV/AIDS. Another local partner NVIDA (NSUMBI VISION IN DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION) is implementing this project. Activities include training workshops, developing a community trainers guide, a monthly outreach where a doctor and councillor visits the centre, a demonstration plot where crops are grown, with the local community getting involved. The community has set up a committee, which has full responsibility running the centre.

Impact

Activities in the centre this year includes: -

  1. Voluntary Counselling and testing (VCT) for HIV.
  2. Workshop on VCT for community volunteers
  3. Post test clubs to provide support for those people found to be HIV infected
  4. Medical clinic run twice a month. Children can get paediatric medicines at the centre and are treated by a doctor free of charge.
  5. Nutritional demonstration plot developed in order that families can learn how to grow nutritious vegetables for their families.
