Sponsorship Programme
In Uganda there are approximately two million AIDS orphans, that is to say that all of these children have either lost one or both of their parents to HIV/ AIDS. Relatives, especially grandmothers who have become overburdened with orphaned grandchildren, are looking after many of these children. They are low-income earners and as a result most of the children under their care cannot go to school. The Ugandan School system is privatised. A–Z Children’s Charity now has 150 children are now on the programme. These children will be provided with education until third level. Individual sponsors from Ireland provide the funds for these school children.
Impact
95% of the children are still attending school. These are children who would otherwise not been able to go to school due to their social situation
